SPEC DATA Product description
Basic Use: Product is intended for interior or exterior nonstructural lightweight veneer facing on masonry, metal, or frame construction for architectural appeal. *Interior or exterior walls of new construction. *Remodeling and redecorating of existing walls. *Fireplaces: around openings, hearth, exterior chimney finish, or chase finish. Note: Manufactured stone does not add strength to load-bearing capacity of wall. Should not be used in below-water applications.
Composition and Materials: Quarried natural stones of varying sizes and shapes are used to make flexible molds. The molds are then painted with iron oxide pigments and filled with a mix of Portland cement and lightweight aggregates. Filled molds are vibrated to integrate surface coloration. Mix in molds is raked to provide scratched surface texture on product back to ensure insulation bond. After stone mix sets, cast product is pulled from molds, packaged, and cured.
Sizes: Varied. Sizes, shapes, and textures of finished product duplicate natural stones used as mold masters. Stone diameters will vary. Right-angle corner stones have return lengths varying from 1.5 inches to 2.5 inches inside. Product pieces designed for fireplace hearth use are 24 X 24 inches and can be cut to fit.
Types: Stone Veneer in 11 styles and 30 colors, as well as: Keystones, Soldiers, Date & Address Stones, Light Blocks, Faucet Blocks, Receptacle Blocks, Quoins, Hearthstones, Mantle Brackets, Sills, Corner Bands, Accessory Bands, Window Casings, Shutter Blocks, Lintels, Arches, Window Headers, Window Lintels,Wall Caps, Pier Caps, Brick Veneer, Brick Sills, and Brick Row Locks.

Installation: Detailed installation procedures are available by calling Quality Stone Veneer. The product is basically applied to a structurally sound wall.
General Maintenance: Most applications require no maintenance. Applications where dirt or dust may accumulate can be washed occasionally. Use of garden hose and soft bristle brush can be used (Do NOT use wire brush). Mild soap or detergent and water can be used and rinsed immediately with fresh water. (Do NOT attempt to clean with acid or acid based products or Power Washer)
Efflorescence This is normal and common in all masonry products and easily remedied. To Remove: Allow stone to dry Scrub with stiff bristle brush and clean water. If this does not remove, scrub with solution of 50% household white vinegar and 50% water and rinse thoroughly.
Salt and Calcium Chloride Products Do NOT use any of these products on areas adjacent to a stone veneer product.
Sealers Sealers are not necessary on stone veneer products, although Quality Stone does recommend a sealer to prevent staining. Make sure the product used is a silane base and breathable. Follow manufacturer's instructions. Note: Sealer can darken stone color, and may also slow the natural movement of moisture out of the stone.

WARRANTY: GUARANTEE - LIMITED When installed in accordance with the manufacturer's application specifications, Quality Stone Veneer unconditionally guarantees their products to the original purchaser for a period of 50 years from the date of purchase.
The warranty applies to the veneer units only and does not cover application replacement nor does it cover defects or damages resulting from or connected with misuse or improper installation.
Quality Stone Veneer warrants that their product will endure in normal use if such application is according to the manufacturer's instructions.
In the event of defects, the consumer must notify Quality Stone Veneer in writing. Upon receipt of such notification and after a factory representative inspection, Quality Stone Veneer will provide, free of charge, new materials to replace those which were defective. This warranty covers only manufacturing defects. The consumer is responsible for any labor costs incurred in replacement.
We recommend that consumers have a sealant applied to Quality Stone Veneer.
INSTALLATION TECHINIQUES:
1. Preparing the Surface Quality Stone Veneer can be applied to any structurally sound surface. Due to its lightweight, no special foundations or structural alterations are necessary.
On clean (unpainted, untreated, and unsealed) brick, block, concrete or other masonry surfaces, install Quality Stone Veneer directly to the surface. On all other surfaces, metal self-furring lath must be applied first. Nail or staple the lath six inched on centers, hitting studs where possible. On metal buildings, attach the lath with a drill and self-tapping screws. Be sure to attach the lath with the right side up so the small cups are pointing upward.
Outside, on wood surfaces, apply 2 layers of weather barrier such as felt building paper before attaching the lath. |

2. Applying the Scratch Coat
Although many installations may not require a scratch coat, as a rule lathed surfaces should be covered with a thin coat of mortar and allowed to set prior to installing stone veneer.
Mortar can be mixed by combining: masonry cement and sand; regular Portland cement, masonry cement and sand; or, regular Portland cement, lime, and sand. If convenience is more important than economy, premixed mortar can be used. In any case, the mortar should be mixed with enough water to achieve a workable (not too wet, not too dry) consistency.
The same mortar can be used for scratch coating, for applying the stone, and for grouting the joints. |

|
3. Applying the Stone
Press the stone firmly into place on the wall surface so that the mortar behind the stone squeezes out around all sides. Using a gentle wiggling action while applying the stone will ensure a good bond.
In warm weather, masonry surfaces may need to be dampened prior to installing so that moisture will not be drawn from the mortar too rapidly.
To help keep the stone clean during construction, start installing stone at the top of the wall surface and work down. Install the corner stone first for the easiest fitting. When selecting stones, try to achieve a balanced pattern of shapes, sizes, and colors, thickness, and textures. Keep the mortar joints between the stones as tight and uniform as possible, and avoid long straight unbroken joint lines.
|
| 4. Trimming the Stone
When necessary, Quality Stone Veneer can be cut and shaped with a hatchet, brick trowel or nippers to form special sizes and shapes for better fitting. Always try to position the trimmed stones on the wall surface so the cut edges will not show.
5. Grouting the Joints
After all of the stone veneer has been applied to the wall surface, fill a grout bag with mortar, and in the same manner as decorating a cake, partially fill the joints between the stone with mortar. While grouting, be sure to cover any noticeable broken stone edges with mortar. If you prefer color mortar joints, oxide color can be mixed with your mortar prior to grouting. |

 |
 |
6. Striking the Joints
When the mortar joints become firm to the touch, use a wooden or metal striking tool to rake out the excess mortar to the desired depth and to force the mortar into the joints to thoroughly seal the joint edges. Be careful not to work the joints too soon or the mortar will smear.
7. Brushing
Brush the mortar joints with a whiskbroom to smooth and clean away the loose mortar. At the same time, brush off any mortar spots from the face of the stone. Loose mortar and mortar spots which have set for only a few hours clean up easily and should never be allowed to setup overnight. | 8. Completion
The use of a high quality waterproofing sealer is recommended on any Quality Stone Veneer surface, but especially on those exposed to severe freezing or thawing, excessive moisture, or conditions which could discolor or stain the stone. A sealed surface is much easier to clean than an unsealed surface.
DRYSTACK INSTALLATION TECHNIQUES:
1. During the summer it works best to lay drystack on wet scratch coat. In winter you need to have a dry scratch coat. If you have a dry scratch coat, wet the wall as you go.
2. Using a 4' level, mark the wall several times to keep your stonework level or use a chalk line.
3. Make sure that all stones have sufficient mortar to seal all edges to the scratch coat. Mortar should be a loose texture to allow the joint to seal to the next stone.
4. Grout to door frames, window frames, porches and soffit before installing stone to eliminate voids.
5. Butter corners and cut edges with mortar.
6. Butter back of stone with 1/2" of mortar, building edges up to 1.5".
7. Bed stone onto scratch coat with a forward and lateral motion to ensure a good bond.
Proper mixture for installation specifications: 2 ½ parts sand to 1 part mortar |
